Last week, the folks from Westside Drywall and Insulation, a company located in Hubbard, Oregon, did some weatherization on my 110 year old home. They did a drill and fill, using blown glass insulation, in the 2 x 4 exterior walls and, at the same time, another part of the crew sealed the duct work and the furnace, eliminating heat loss into the basement. For several nights, my wife tried to get comfortable as she slept and finally yesterday said to me, "I'm going to have to take one of the blankets off the bed. Even with the window open a bit, I'm way too hot at night now!"

I said it was a short story. And, the moral of the story is take action. I've lived in this house since 1952 – 60 years! That front bedroom was cold when my folks slept in it and it's been cold for the ten years my wife has slept in it. You've probably heard the admonishment to not put off 'til tomorrow what you can do today. Had my folks or I taken action somewhere along the sixty year time-line, everyone who occupied that bedroom would have slept warmer – maybe not better – but certainly warmer.
