Mercer’s commitment to our environment starts close to home. In fact, our hometown of Beaverton, Oregon, has recognized us for our proactive approach to recycling.
All employees are encouraged to reduce and recycle. On the production side of our business, we strive to recycle all unused vinyl and glass components. As an example; unused vinyl extrusions and scraps from production are recycled into reusable pellets that can be used in production of other vinyl products. This effort has helped Mercer Windows reduce garbage volume by over 34%!
Facility-wide we have chosen to share our campus with Farwest Fibers, one of the largest recycling entities in Oregon. Together we have taken measures to reduce the amount of silt and debris that enters storm water drains by installing filters that catch these materials before entering the neighboring Greenspace and Fanno Creek.
We are continually seeking ways to reduce the amount of energy and resources we use in the process of making and distributing windows. A recent example of this was the retrofitting of lighting throughout our plant, with more efficient solutions.
Of course, we are extremely proud of the energy efficient windows and doors that we manufacture. We were an early adopter of the Federal Government’s Energy Star program, a Charter Member of the American Architectural Manufacturer’s Association (AAMA), and had windows installed in one of the nation’s very first LEED projects.
When you purchase products from Mercer Windows, you can be assured that you are trading with a company that is a responsible citizen of the earth, while being second to none in energy efficient product innovation.
